Gradion Phillip Levis

This will be the new home of everything Gradion. I may be a geek, but I am NOT a web designer, so please excuse the rudimentary authoring skills. Please check back often as we hope to continue to upload new ablums and information.

We had an appointment with Dr. Hancock to see how we were progressing. Misty had high blood pressure at the start of the appointment, so they had her go into the examination room and lay on her left side. This was an effort to relieve pressure on her aorta so she would get a more accurate reading. Her blood pressure decreased, but it was still an area that needed to be watched. While talking with Dr. Hancock, Misty mentioned that she had been getting dizzy and nauseous. As we talked more, Dr. Hancock decided that he thought it would be best to be induced the next day. There was nothing hard and fast pointing to this, but he felt it was the right move. We decided to take his advice.

7:30am - Arrived at Mercy Hospital in Downtown Des Moines.
8:00am - Dr. Hancock broke Misty's water.
10:00am - Dr. Hancock advised that we start pitocin so that we could increase the contractions.
12:30pm - "Labor" began (Labor officially starts when the contractions reach a certain level of pain).
1:30pm - Bring on the drugs! Epidural time.

We had to take things slow because as the contractions increased, Gradion's heartrate would decrease. The levels of pitocin had to be adjusted accordingly. Misty was very uncomfortable due to the numbing in her legs from the epidural, as well as the lack of food. She was feeling faint and weak. She was on O2 most of the labor because it helped Gradion's condition.

8:30pm - We hit 7, almost 8 for dilation. Dr. Hancock said he would come back at 10:00 to check on us again.
10:00 - 10:10 - Dilation went from 8 to 10 and we were ready.
10:10 - 10:40 - Misty fought hard and pushed through 6 to 8 (memory is fuzzy now) contractions.
10:40pm - Gradion Phillip Levis was born.
